Every great journey begins with a story — ours begins with Mak(AKA Mrs B).
Mak, our beloved mother in Malaysia, lived with diabetes for many years. Like so many mothers, she carried herself with strength and resilience, never letting her condition define her. She was on insulin for much of her life, yet she never stopped searching for natural remedies to support her health.
At home, she would experiment with herbal preparations — cutting bitter melon, boiling fruits from palm trees, and crafting remedies passed down through generations. Some worked better than others, but one day she discovered something remarkable.
Mak began boiling the leaves of the Nam Nam tree (Cynometra cauliflora) into a dark, sour-green concoction. She stored it in the fridge and drank it daily. To her doctor’s surprise, she eventually no longer needed insulin.
One of the most powerful moments came when she was in hospital awaiting surgery. Her blood sugar was dangerously high — so high that the doctor said they could not operate. Calmly, Mak asked her daughter to go home, prepare the Nam Nam leaves, and bring the drink to her. After drinking it, her sugar levels dropped dramatically — from around 24 down to 4.5 mmol/L. She was able to eat, recover balance, and undergo her surgery successfully.
These are not just family stories — they are the legacy of Mak’s strength, her wisdom, and her belief in the healing gifts of nature.
Mak has since returned to God, but her memory, her remedies, and her love continue to guide us. We miss her deeply, and it is in her honor that we continue this mission.
